On Market Street And Around The Corner: 200 Years of Lewisburg History
in the Kelly Gallery
This
exciting exhibit is a cooperative venture with the Union County
Historical Society and features items from the collections of both
organizations, together with loans from the White Deer Railroad Society
and the Milton Historical Society. An introductory section speaks
of Ludwig Derr and the founding of Lewisburg, with the canal and
railroad eras covered by artifacts and photographs. Margaret
Gundy’s hat shop is represented, along with an examination of
Lewisburg photographers.
The main part of the Kelly Gallery will feature Lewisburg businesses
over the years, including Purity Candy, Herman & Leiser Dry Goods,
Roger’s Men’s Wear, Troutman’s Pharmacy, the Roxy
Theatre, Union National Bank, and the Lewisburg Saturday News.
Featured will be a switchboard once used by the Buffalo Valley
Telephone Company, a corn sheller manufactured by Slifer, Walls, and
Shriner, furniture made in Lewisburg, and a variety of photographs
taken over the past 150 years.
The
exhibit is free for Museum members. Admission for all other
visitors is $4.00, or included with a tour of the Museum. A series of programs related
to the exhibit are also planned. For more information on the
exhibit, related programming, or the Packwood
House
